Art Refuge UK are delighted to invite you to join us on February 19th at Amnesty International to bid on original artworks by professional artists and art therapists, and view images created by Tibetan refugee children in India and Nepal from the Art Refuge UK programme. Your bids, donations, support and/or promotion for this event will be fantastically well received.
ACTION RESEARCH IN KATHMANDU
In March and April 2015 registered Art Therapists Jess Linton and Naomi Press will be travelling to Kathmandu to embark on a new phase of action research and project work with Art Refuge UK. We will be working directly with both the recently opened Children’s Art Museum and local services that support refugee and displaced children and families in Nepal, assessing need, providing skills sharing and capacity building for local professionals and frontline staff, and offering therapeutic art support.
At 7.00pm Bobby Lloyd (Chair of Art Refuge UK) and Sarah Robinson (Art Refuge UK Programme Manager) will briefly talk about the charity and about this new phase of work.
The Art Auction at will take place at 7.30pm.
All proceeds will go directly towards the project work for Art Refuge UK.
On display throughout the evening will be the Art Refuge UK touring exhibition Journey into Exile, a series of images by Tibetan children and young people participating in the Art Refuge UK programme in Nepal and India, bearing witness to their extraordinary and treacherous journey from Tibet and in transition into Nepal and India.
Amnesty International UK Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, London EC2A 3EA
Since 2006 Art Refuge UK has delivered small focused programmes in Nepal and India, alongside United Nations High Comission for Refugees and the Tibetan Government in Exile, to support Tibetan new arrivals through creative arts and play. As numbers of new arrivals arriving from Tibet are depleting dramatically, the work is currently extending to respond to other populations and requests, including those from UNHCR. Art Refuge UK is programme-managed and supported by HCPC registered Art Therapists from the UK who travel to Nepal on a regular basis to support and develop the work.
Art Refuge UK is collaborating with the recently opened Nepal Children’s Art Museum in Kathmandu whose shared goals include bringing art making to displaced populations and empowering people across generations to find creative solutions to improve their lives. The working alliance will enable a continued presence from Art Refuge UK on the ground in Nepal to further support the learning from recent art therapy workshops and facilitate the sensitive uses of art-making that local caring professionals and frontline staff can take back to those in their care.
We look forward to welcoming you at the exhibition and auction on 19th February, and any support and/or promotion for this event will be gratefully received.
